Yeah, "Golden Road", is one that, based on the pittyful meager selection of 67, tapes, is better on the album . AOX. should be on my list , "WBOTB", and yes the "Chinacat", also the self contained "St. Sthephen" ,and the spacey "Cosmic Charlie".
Working Man's. and American Beauty, are the Grateful Dead's entries into the "great rock albums" pantheon ; but I like all those songs live better . Sometimes it is nice to have the vocal polish, though ( "Ripple" ).
Now the album "Shakedown Street," for me , is the extreme case , of "…dude... you have to hear these songs live, they are really good live, no shit ..."
